Leadership New Jersey Class Projects

 Multi-Year Class Projects

  • 1987, '88, '89 - Governing New Jersey (The Prune Book). The Prune Book is a completed class project
  • College Leadership New Jersey program development. College Leadership New Jersey began at the NJIT campus and was moved to Montclair State University. The program successfully ran for several years, but cuts in funding have prevented the program from continuing, beginning in Fall 2007.
  • Invest in Children Coalition Conference Facilitation. This is a completed class project.
  • Business Coalition for Education Conference Facilitation. This is a completed class project.
  • Governor's Leadership Summit on Diversity Conference Facilitation. The first Summit took place in 1997 and the second took place in 2007. The American Conference on Diversity heads up this initiative.
  • Annual LNJ Celebration of Leadership dinner. The Celebration of Leadership has been an ongoing annual LNJ Program.
  • LNJ Racism Seminar ('95 & '97). The Race Seminar was implemented as a two-day LNJ seminar in 2004.
  • Development of Leadership Newark. Leadership Newark became a regional leadership program, modeled from LNJ with its first class beginning in 1998. Leadership Newark continues to accept a new class every year.
  • Development of Leadership Trenton. Leadership Trenton is a regional leadership program of Thomas Edison State College and inducts a class every year.
  • Development of design and proposal for Health Leadership Initiative

 All Class Projects

2007 -Will launch a statewide initiative to raise public awareness of prisoner reentry challenges and available resources. Their goal is to develop powerful messaging that puts a human face on the issue and inspires positive change. The class will partner with existing reentry stakeholders to develop a statewide public outreach campaign that may include collateral materials, testimonials, a web site, inventory of resources, and a special launch event(s).
2006 -To increase media attention to the State of New Jersey by putting the topic into public discourse by securing an FCC Hearing in the State of New Jersey. The program is called "Voice for New Jersey".
2002 -Increase political participation of young people through a program like Vote Smart. This class project was completed.
2001 -Organize The Forum on the Future of New Jersey, and develop the LNJ Talent Exchange to facilitate career networking and LNJ Graduate Fellows' involvement in nonprofit initiatives. Both of these class projects continue today. The Forum on the Future of New Jersey is an annual program of Leadership New Jersey, that is open to the public, and the LNJ Talent Exchange continues to help LNJ fellows with continuous e-mail blasts of career opportunities.
2000 -Annual Leadership Award program. The Leadership Awards are given out annually at the Celebration of Leadership.
1998 -Drug Courts. Leadership New Jersey is proud to report that every county in New Jersey houses at least one drug court. Before this project, there were only two drug courts in the entire state of New Jersey
1996 -Net Day. The Class of 1996 pledged to connect 1,000 public schools in New Jersey with internet in a year. 800 schools responded and were connected within a one-year timeframe.
1994 -Report on improving human service delivery through information technology (no additional information)
1993 -Review of LNJ curriculum for class, race and gender implications. This review has been an ongoing process. In January 2008, LNJ committed to reviewing the curriculum of the seminar year through the Future Commission research and report. This report will be presented at the 2008 Celebration of Leadership.
1992 -Report and analysis of Child Health Programs That Work (no additional information)
1991 -Juvenile justice career development and mentoring events (no additional information)
1990 -Improving civic understanding and education conference programs (no additional information)
1989 -Conferences on diversity and inter-group relations for high school students. Diversity relations conferences were set up through the Governor's Leadership Summit on Diversity.
